Dr. Arthur Buswell Recognized for Outstanding Medical and Military Work

After several decades of military and medical contributions, Dr. Arthur Buswell taught as an adjunct professor at Baylor University



Dr. Buswell has become known for his vast number of achievements in the medical field, as well as his extensive military work and involvement in his local community.

    KINGFISHER, OK, August 16, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Arthur Buswell has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A highly accomplished physician and surgeon, Dr. Arthur Wilcox Buswell has retired from medical work and teaching as an adjunct assistant professor at Baylor University. To lay down the framework for pursuing his desired career path, Dr. Buswell earned a Bachelor of Science in medicine from the University of Oklahoma in 1950. This was followed by a Doctor of Medicine from the same institution only two years later. Dr. Buswell went on to receive an AA in medical service in 1963 from the United States Army, and he earned a postgraduate degree from the University of California six years later.

Perhaps the most remarkable characteristic of Dr. Buswell's career is the sheer amount of experience he has accrued in a number of medical facilities. He began as an intern at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in 1952. Within a few years, he began practicing medicine and surgery in Hennessey, Okla. and was there for almost a decade. From 1968 to 1972, he worked as a medical project officer for the United States Army Combat Development Experimentation Command in Fort Ord. Dr. Buswell also held a position as a commander of medical department activities in Fort Stewart, Ga. for nearly four years. Most recently, he held a similar role in Alaska until 1983.

Over the years, Dr. Buswell has been commended for his extensive and impressive work in the medical industry. He received the Legion of Merit decorated with two oak leaf clusters, the Soldier's Medal, the Bronze Star Medal with an oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Armed Forces Honor Medal First Class. Furthermore, Dr. Buswell was admitted to the Kingfisher High School Hall of Fame in 1987 and was named Citizen of the Year in 1988 by the City of Kingfisher. He has also been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.

Dr. Buswell served in the United States Armed Forces for a number of years as well. From 1944-1946, he was a member of the Army of the United States, and he held the position of first lieutenant in the United States Army from 1952-1954. Finally, during his service in the United States Army from 1961-1983, he began as a major and eventually rose up the ranks to colonel.
While accomplishing all of these achievements, Dr. Buswell has been an active participant in numerous associations. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Health; additionally, he maintains memberships with the American Medical Association, the Kingfisher County Medical Society, AMSUS - The Society of Federal Health Professionals, the Army Aviation Medicine Association, the Aerospace Medical Association and the Oklahoma State Medical Association.

Dr. Buswell is a member of several local organizations and causes as well, such as the Kingfisher Memorial Library Board, Friends of Libraries in Oklahoma and the Chrisholm Trail Museum. He also served as president of the Fort Stewart School Board in 1977 and held the same position for Friends of the Library for Kingfisher County for four years. Dr. Buswell has become known for his vast number of achievements in the medical field, as well as his extensive military work and involvement in his local community.
