For more than 50 years, Ms. Williams has dedicated her life to helping her community. Upon graduating from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts in 1957, she pursued a Master of Social Work at Adelphi University, which she received in 1963. Throughout the course of her versatile career, Ms. Williams has served as a psychiatric social worker, therapist and counselor at various hospitals and medical centers throughout Suffolk County. In her most recent position, Ms. Williams was involved with dialysis services and acute psychiatric treatment services as a medical and psychiatric social worker at the Northport VA Medical Center in Northport, VA, from 1974 to 2008. Since 1993, she has actively assisted the Mental Health Association of Nassau County as a referral counselor.

A lifelong champion of civil rights, she is proud to have participated in a civil rights march from Selma, Ala. to the state capitol of Montgomery in 1967. She later served as the chairman of the Huntington Township Committee on Human Relations in 1970, and in 1984, she was the secretary of the board of trustees for the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Huntington, N.Y. A member of the German Philatelic Society (1987), she became the president of Chapter 30 in 1990. Prior to becoming a diplomate in social work, Ms. Williams also worked on a consulting basis with senior citizens programs for the Board of Education in Port Jefferson, N.Y. (1962), as well as with Lutheran Social Services of Metropolitan New York (1960).
Although she is now retired, Ms. Williams continues to be recognized for her contributions to society. Between 1991 and 2011, she was featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World.
