Dr. Alicia de Colombi-Monguio Acclaimed for Accomplishments in Academia

    ALBANY, NY, September 06, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alicia de Colombi-Monguio has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Colombi-Monguio studied history, literature, and history of the arts at the Ecole du Louvre, the College de France (Paris), and at the University of Buenos Aires. Then she pursued her impressive career in academia after relocating to the United States in 1967. Two years later, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Santa Clara University. She then went on to Stanford University, where she attained a Master of Arts in Spanish and Portuguese in 1971, and a Joint Ph.D. in Spanish and in the Humanities in 1973. Dr. Colombi-Monguio was a Guggenheim fellow from 1978 to 1979, and also received an Honors Diploma from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez in 1981.

Armed with this strong educational foundation, Dr. Colombi-Monguio has succeeded as both a scholar and an educator. She has been a research professor at the State University of New York at Albany since 1998. Dr. Colombi-Monguio has been affiliated with the school since 1982, when she joined the faculty as a Spanish professor. She served as chair of the school's Department of Hispanic, Portuguese and Italian Studies from 1986 to 1990. Prior to this appointment, she left the school for two years to teach Spanish and head the Spanish and Portuguese department at the University of Arizona. Dr. Colombi-Monguio's first teaching roles were at Bennington College in Vermont and Mills College in California. She held chair positions at both schools.

Dr. Colombi-Monguio is an accomplished writer as well as educator. She published three books of poems, El aguardante (1970), Ser al sesgo y otras imitaciones (1981) and 31 sonetos (1982). Among her books of literary criticism are De amor y poesia en la Espana Medieval, Prologo a Juan Ruiz (1976), Petrarquismo Peruano, Diego Davalos y Figueroa y la poesia de la Miscelanea Austral (1985), Del exe antiguo a nuestro nuevo polo, (2003), Luis de Ribera. Poesias, Sagradas (2010), Entre voces y ecos: de poetica renacentista y poesia hispanica (2011). Her last book "Petrarca. La lira y el laurel. Poesia Selecta" is the first translation into Spanish of Petrarch's Latin poetry, which is done in verse. Dr. Colombi-Monguio has also contributed to more than 100 articles in professional journals, and she was the subject of "Homenaje a Alicia de Colombi-Monguio," an homage that was compiled and edited by Eva Mendieta.

In light of her achievements, Dr. Colombi-Monguio has been featured in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America published between 1999 and 2016. She was also featured in the 27th edition of Who's Who in the East, the 19th through 24th editions of Who's Who in the World, and the 23rd edition of Who's Who of American Women.
