Pat Adams Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Art

An award-winning painter and educator, Ms. Adams has committed her career and her life to the creative arts

The Bennington Museum will mount an exhibition of her work in the spring of 2017.

BENNINGTON, VT, September 15, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pat Adams has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An artist and educator, Ms. Adams has committed her career and her life to the creative arts. Throughout the years, her paintings have been recognized by the National Council for the Arts, the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, the National Academy Museum and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her works were presented biennially in one-person exhibitions from 1954 to 2010 at New York's Zabriskie Gallery. Surveys of her work were chosen to celebrate the gallery's 25th and 50th anniversaries. Surveys at the Cincinnati Art Center and the Berkshire Museum examined her work as well. One-person exhibits include the Columbia (S.C.) Museum of Art, the Fleming Museum, the Haggin Museum, and Williams College. Travelling group exhibitions were arranged by the Museum of Modern Art, the American Federation of Art, and the Art in Embassies program. Adams' paintings are in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Yale University Art Gallery, and the Zimmerli Art Museum, among others.

Adams' life as a painter has informed her teaching; and the critical attention to her paintings brought country-wide invitations from multiple universities to exhibit, lecture, and engage students in critique sessions. She taught at Bennington College from 1964 to 1993, and was appointed Visiting Professor of Art to Yale University's Master of Fine Arts program from 1990 to 1994. In 1984 she received the College of Art Association's Distinguished Teaching of Art award.

Her engagement in the art community and the wider world includes election to the National Academy of Design, the National Association of Women Artists (Honorary Vice-chairman), Corporation of Yaddo, Vermont Council for the Arts, and the College Art Association (former Board member); and Phi Beta Kappa.

The Bennington Museum will mount an exhibition of her work in the spring of 2017.
