BROOKLYN, NY, September 24, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Simon Rabinowitz has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Since earning an MD from the University of Miami in 1983, Dr. Rabinowitz has been an established pediatric gastroenterologist, educator and scientist who has focused on inner city children and their diseases. He is the Vice Chairman of Pediatrics for Clinical Practice at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where he serves as a liaison for the medical school and its two hospital campuses. Additionally, he continues his work as an active pediatric gastroenterologist who is devoted to patient care. Prior to working in this capacity, Dr. Rabinowitz was the Chairman of Pediatrics and the Pediatric Residency Program Director at St. Vincent's University/Richmond University Medical Center. Under his leadership, the department received a Pediatric Patient Safety Excellence Award, given to the top 5% of hospitals in the nation by Health Grades. Asked to step in when the previous chairman was forced to resign, he directed the hospital's Continuing Medical Education to a successful accreditation status. He was previously the chief of pediatric gastroenterology at Long Island College Hospital and SUNY Health Science Center, Brooklyn. He initiated the fellowship program in Pediatric Gastroenterology at SUNY, which was among the first in the United States to be accredited by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Dr. Rabinowitz, who also holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin and a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College, completed his education with a residency in Pediatrics and a fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Pediatric Gastroenterology. Dr. Rabinowitz also remains current in his field through affiliations with the American Academy of Science, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association, and the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.
Dr. Rabinowitz has received a number of formal honors over the years in recognition of his dedication to his profession. These honors include being named a Top Doctor by New York Magazine, being included in every published edition of New York Metro Top Doctor by Castle Connolly, and being recently honored as: a Professional of the Year by the International Association of Who's Who in 2016 for exemplary achievements in the field of medicine, America's Most Honored Professionals top 5% 2016 by American Registry, and one of America's Top Pediatricians 2016 by the Consumer Research Council of America. In addition, he was named a Pinnacle Professional in November 2015 by Continental Who's Who.
Dr. Rabinowitz was one of two North American representatives on the international working group that created a protocol for treating gastrointestinal, hepatic, and nutritional diseases in children with HIV infection which was presented at the Second World Congress of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition in 2004. He has published in peer review journals on a variety of other topics in pediatric gastroenterology including gastroesophageal reflux, hepatitis C, necrotizing enterocolitis, portal hypertension, metabolic liver disease, Hirschsprung disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, and nutritional support of children with developmental delay. After returning to SUNY, Dr. Rabinowitz has become more involved with translational research. He published and subsequently presented his original work demonstrating an "Inverse Correlation of Helicobacter pylori Infection with Obesity" at an international conference in Jaipur, India in February 2016. In September, he was a keynote speaker at an international gastroenterology and endoscopy conference. He presented his research utilizing endoscopic ultrasound to manage children with eosinophilic esophagitis.
