Mr. Kennedy laid the foundation for his career by receiving a Bachelor of Science from Seton Hall University. A year after the attainment of his undergrad, he earned a Master of Arts from Columbia University. The University of Paris has also awarded him two certificates. Additionally, he has received honorary degrees from Lawrence University, Adelphi University and Westfield State University.
In 1956, Mr. Kennedy's career as an educator began at the University of Michigan as a teaching fellow. Since then, he has worked as an instructor of English at the University of Michigan, a lecturer of English at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a professor at Tufts University, a position that he held until 1979. His first published book, "Nude Descending a Staircase," saw the start of an amazing career as a writer in 1961. Since then, he has published a wide variety of works; a few of his textbooks include "An Introduction to Poetry," "The Bedford Reader" and "Literature," among numerous other fiction and poetry publications.
Over the past few decades, Mr. Kennedy has received many awards for his work and contributions to the field. Most recently, he received the Jackson Poetry Prize in 2015. Mr. Kennedy has also been the recipient of the Excellence in Poetry for Children Award from the National Council of Teachers of English, The Poets' Prize, the Notable Book Citation of the American Library Association, the Robert Frost Medal from the Poetry Society of America, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Bruern Fellowship in American Civilisation at Leeds University, and many more.
Mr. Kennedy has been selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in America: Student Version, Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World.
