Klaus D. Bowers, Ph.D., Recognized for Excellence in Electronics & Research

Dr. Bowers is the former vice president of Electronics Technology, Bell Telephone Laboratories, a position he held for more than a decade

    EMMAUS, PA, September 28, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Klaus D. Bowers, Ph.D., has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Widely regarded for his understanding of the electronics industry, Dr. Bowers served as the vice president of Electronics Technology, Bell Telephone Laboratories, from 1979 until his retirement in 1990. Born in Germany, he attended Oxford University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1950, as well as a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in 1953. During that time, Dr. Bowers also served as research lecturer in physics at Christ Church at Oxford University. His career with Bell Telephone Laboratories began in 1956, when he moved to the United States and joined the company as a researcher. From 1959 to 1990, he held a wide variety of management positions, ranging from manager of electronics development at Bell Labs to vice president of component development at Sandia National Laboratories, and Chief Scientist of AT&T Microelectronics. Prior to assuming the role of vice president at Bell Labs, Dr. Bowers held the position of executive director of the Pennsylvania Laboratories for four years.

Dr. Bowers is a fellow of the IEEE, and was the recipient of the Frederik Philips Award in 1989. In addition, since 1985, he is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He served as a trustee of Cedar Crest College from 1983 to 1987 and as a chairman of the Semiconductor Research Corporation from 1987 to 1988. Dr. Bowers has contributed numerous articles to professional journals, in addition to holding patents in his field of expertise. He is the author of "Non Frangimur: My First Six Decades," which was published in 2004 and republished in 2015.

In recognition of his contributions to the electronics industry, Dr. Bowers has been featured in a wide variety of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. Additionally, he was included in the 35th, 36th and 37th editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, as well as the 8th through 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
