At the start of her career, Dr. Lussi spent years serving as a professional ski instructor. Now, more than five decades later, she has become renowned for excellence as a resort executive. It only took Dr. Lussi a year with the Holiday Motor Motel in Wilmington, N.Y., before she was promoted from manager to owner. She held that position from 1962 to 1969, and then moved on to take co-ownership of the Holiday Inn in Lake Placid, N.Y. Dr. Lussi maintained that position for 36 years. In 2005, the Holiday Inn merged with the Lake Placid Resort to become the Crowne Plaza Resort and Golf Club. Dr. Lussi has co-owned the establishment since the merger. In addition to her work with the hotels, she is also the treasurer of the Lake Placid Marina Corp.
To prepare for her professional journey, Dr. Lussi completed coursework at the University of Colorado in 1958, and obtained an associate of applied science from Paul Smith's College in 1960. She graduated from Holiday Inn University in 1969, and in 2002, earned an honorary doctorate from Paul Smith's College.
As a testament to her achievements, Dr. Lussi has been featured in numerous additions of Who's Who in America between 2000 and 2016, as well as three additions of Who's Who in Finance and Business between 1999 and 2007. Additionally, this year she was inducted into the Lake Placid Hall of Fame, was the recipient of the first Adirondack Foundation Generous Act Award and set up an endowment for each 8th grade student in perpetuity to be given a trip to Washington, D.C. annually.
She has also been honored through inclusion in five volumes of Who's Who in the East, and two each in Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. Additionally, Dr. Lussi was named Citizen of the Year in New York by the Boy Scouts of America in 2003, and was listed among the top 10 percent of innkeepers by Holiday Inns from 1972 to 1975.
