Widely regarded for his skills as a telecommunications executive and financial consultant, Mr. Cogswell retired in 1990 following a successful career spanning more than three decades. Most recently, he served the New England Telephone Company as the secretary-treasurer. Since then, Mr. Cogswell has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. Additionally, he was included in the 8th, 10th, 11th and 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, as well as the 35th through 37th editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business. Mr. Cogswell was the recipient of the Class of 1955 Award from Dartmouth College in 2003, in addition to being named Volunteer of the Year by the Combined Health Appeal of America in 1992.
A registered professional engineer, Mr. Cogswell began his career upon receiving a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science from Dartmouth College. During this time, he also served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a second lieutenant retiring as captain. He joined the New England Telephone Company in 1956 as an engineer before rising through the ranks as a planning engineer, staff accountant, construction program engineer and division manager of finance before taking on the role of secretary-treasurer in 1983. From 1965 to 1969, he also worked briefly as an engineer and manager of economics for the American Telephone Company.

He was active in local civic activities in town government and as treasurer of healthcare organizations for nearly half a century. Recently, he was also a member of the board of directors and the treasurer of the Cogswell Family Association, holding this title from 1989 to 2011. His former affiliations include the Financial Management Association, the Financial Executive Institute, the Treasurer's Club of Greater Boston and Neighborhood Health Plan, for which he was the president, treasurer and member of the board of directors between 1968 and 1998.
