George Martin Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Writing

For more than six decades, Mr. Martin has published works focused on music, theater and the opera



A former attorney with a passion for writing, Mr. Martin in the last six decades has published many articles and fourteen books.

    KENNETT SQUARE, PA, October 07, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- George Martin has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A former attorney with a passion for writing, Mr. Martin in the last six decades has published many articles and fourteen books. During the 1950s, he worked as part of the law firm Emmet, Martin & Martin in New York City before deciding to pursue a vocation in the creative arts. "I loved art and entertainment and I felt I could speak to people on an emotional and intellectual level as a writer," remarked Mr. Martin on his motivation to switch careers. With law, however still much on his mind, Mr. Martin often wrote pieces on the history of law, including "Causes and Conflicts, The Centennial History of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York."

Mr. Martin's most recognized publications are those focused on music, theater and the opera. He published "The Opera Companion, A Guide for the Casual Operagoer," in 1961, " Verdi, His Music, Life and Times," in 1963, "The Damrosch Dynasty, America's First Family of Music," in 1983 and "Twentieth Century Opera, A Guide," in 1999. He gained recognition for "CCB: The Life and Century of Charles C. Burlingham, New York's First Citizen, 1858-1959," for which he earned the Erwin N. Griswold Award from the U.S. Supreme Court Historical Society in 2006. In recent years, Mr. Martin has continued writing, publishing "Verdi in America Oberto Through Rigoletto," and "Opera at the Bandstand, Then and Now." Today, he still contributes to articles, professional journals and magazines.

In recognition of professional excellence, Mr. Martin has been honorably selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America every year since 1987. He was also included in Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. When asked about the forces behind his success, Mr. Martin credited his passion, as well as his own education, which proved to him that opportunities exist if you follow your passion. Mr. Martin holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and an LLB from the University of Virginia. Additionally, he completed coursework at Trinity College at Cambridge University. As he looks to the future, Mr. Martin intends to continue writing.
