Mr. Pearce held the role of library director and assistant professor of philosophy until his retirement from the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Mr. Pearce held the role of library director and assistant professor of philosophy until his retirement from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1988. Before working at the university, he gained experience from holding several other positions. Among these were assistant professor of oriental philosophy, assistant director of libraries, chief bibliographer and head librarian at the University of North Dakota. Additionally, he worked as a library acquisition assistant, as well as a staff member, for The Ohio State University, and a circulation librarian for Denison University.
To start his career, Mr. Pearce studied at the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies in 1943. During this time, he also served with the British Army. A decade later, he received a Bachelor of Arts from The George Washington University, which was shortly followed by a Master of Science in Library Science, earned from The Catholic University of America.
Mr. Pearce is a member of the American Library Association, the North Dakota Library Association, the Minnesota Library Association, the Association of College & Research Libraries, the Mountain Plains Library Association, the Buddhist Association, Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Phi Mu. He also briefly held the role of chairman of the Ohio Library Association's staff organization round table. Among Mr. Pearce's honors include being featured in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the Midwest.
