NEW YORK, NY, October 14, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Audrey Amdursky has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Growing up, it was Dr. Amdursky's dream to help others in any capacity that she could. Now, with more than five decades of experience in the mental health care field, she is highly regarded for her prominence in the field of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in the greater New York City region. In private practice since 1987, Dr. Amdursky offers psychotherapy and psychoanalytical services to mental health care patients and their families. Over the course of her career, she served as Director of the Counseling Service at The Juilliard School for the Performing Arts, as a faculty member at The Postgraduate Training Institute for Psychotherapy, as a core faculty member at The Postgraduate Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, and as Psychotherapist, Director and Supervisor of Individual Treatment at the Institute for the Performing Artist. These esteemed roles are in addition to her former work as a training analyst, senior supervisor, administrator, and SUNY and CUNY faculty member and student counselor. Due to her tenacious work ethic and the achievements she has earned, Dr. Amdursky was honorably selected for inclusion into Who's Who in the World.
Dr. Amdursky holds a MSW from Adelphi University, an Ed.D. from Columbia University, a Master of Arts in political economy from the University of Toronto, earned in 1965 and a Bachelor of Arts from University College, University of Toronto, earned in 1962.
She attended Glebe Collegiate Institute in Ottawa, Ontario for grades 9-13. As a member of student government, editor of her high school newspaper and editor-in-chief of the yearbook, Lux Glebana, Dr. Amdursky raised the issue uttered by Plato to "Know thyself". This remained with her during her bachelor's and master's experiences and took her in many directions. It eventually led her to explore many parts of her own self by becoming involved not only in various courses she took during her years at U. of T. but she decided she could also learn it experientially. In her major, she studied the theoretical. philosophical, historical and actual issues of governing, being governed, and the challenges governments present, and she ran for government at the truly local level. She was elected to student government at the college and represented University College on the governing board, the Student Administrative Council of the University of Toronto. The following year she was elected by the entire Graduate School to represent it on the University of Toronto Student Administrative Council. She learned from these experiences as well as those her studies presented.
As she grew and changed, she acknowledged that there is no such thing as over achievement, only under achievement. She learned that by being curious about herself and empathic towards others you come to know yourself and become all you are capable of. And she learned that caring for and about others can help them to grow and change as well.
Dr. Amdursky served as an invited speaker on the subject of "Psychological Services at The Juilliard School" for the Performing Arts Medicine Association in Aspen, CO in 2001, and on the subject of "Psychological Treatment Possibilities for the Chamber Music Group in Need" at the Annual Conference of the Chamber Music Society of America in New York, NY, in 1996. In 1990, she spoke along with Louise De Costa and William Buse on the subject of "Personal Myths: Living Them and Pretending Them--Ways in which Three Actors' Theatrical Lives Reveal the Part Personal Myths Play in Human Functioning" at the 1st Annual Conference on Psychology and the Performing Artist at the Institute of Psychiatry at the University of London in London, England. This work was published in Dynamic Therapy, Volume 4, Number 2, Fall/Winter 1986.
Civically, Dr. Amdursky served as Co-chair of the Postgraduate Psychoanalytic Society's Ethics Committee from 1988 to 1992, on its Education Committee from 1990 to 1991, and as its Corresponding Secretary and as a member of the Nominating Committee from 1991 and 1992. Additionally, she was a Founding Board Member of Leave Out Violence in 2001, served as a member of its Board from 2002 to 2008. and on its Advisory Board from 2009 to 2013. Her career-related affiliations include serving as an Ethics subcommittee member of the Psychoanalytic Institute, PCMH, from 1991 to 2000 and as co-chair of Scientific Lectures for the Psychoanalytic Institute, PCMH, from 1989 to 1999. She has been actively involved with Power Lunch for Women since 1998, found funding for a co-op nursery school in 1968, and served as a research associate with the Model for Federal Head Start Pre-School Program from 1965 to 1967.
