HIGHLAND, UT, October 17, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kerry Baum has been included in Marquis Who's Who since 2002. Throughout his career as a military officer, Colonel Baum was highly regarded for his professionalism, leadership and ability to get jobs done quickly and efficiently. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957 and served nine years before being commissioned a Second Lieutenant. He advanced through the ranks to Colonel. He is a graduate of the US Army Airborne Course, the Air Assault Course, the Army Ranger School (designated an Honor Graduate for his class), the Command and General Staff College and the Naval War College. His decorations include the Army Achievement and Commendation Medals, Air Force Commendation Medal, the Bronze Star received during his service in Vietnam, and the Joint Superior Service Medal in recognition of professional excellence while serving on the Joint Staff. During his service on the Joint Staff he was selected as the US Military Representative to the NATO Alerts Committee and the Joint Staff Representative to LIVE OAK (a four power international organization responsible for access to Berlin, and which played a significant role in the fall of the Berlin wall and the unification of Germany). He was also a Team Chief in the National Military Command Center responsible for drafting the orders for many critical military operations to include Just Cause (Panama) and Desert Shield.
After retirement from the Army Colonel Baum became the Emergency Manager for Brigham Young University, retiring from BYU in 2010. He was then called to serve for 18 months as the Military Relations Representative to the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, GA for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Colonel Baum earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Brigham Young University in 1967, an MBA in marketing from Murray State University in 1978, did post-graduate work at Webster College in St. Louis, MO, received a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College in 1986, and a Master of Accounting from BYU in 1993. He was designated a Certified Business Continuity Planner through the Disaster Recovery Institute, a Certified Recovery Planner through the Harris Recovery Group, and a Certified Emergency Manager through the International Association of Emergency Managers.
Actively involved in this professional communities, Colonel Baum was a member of the Association of Contingency Planners (serving for eight years as treasurer for the Utah chapter), the Utah Emergency Management Association (serving for several years as a board member), the Utah Campus Safety Association (serving one year as president), the Reserve Officers Association and the Military Officers Association of America. In 2000 he was appointed by the Governor of Utah to the Utah Seismic Safety Commission, serving until 2008, including two years as the Vice Chair.
Now fully retired he plans to serve in positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints both at home and abroad.
