To set off on his career with the goal to become a lawyer, Mr. Javits earned a Bachelor of Arts and a JD from Columbia University. In 1955, he was certified by the New York State Bar and began working at Javits & Javits in 1955. He eventually became partner and remained in this position until 1982. Just a few years later, he went on to join Javits, Robinson, Brog, Leinwand & Reich as its senior partner and shortly thereafter, earned the title of senior counsel.

This led him to act as an ambassador to organizations all over the world, serving as a U.S. permanent representative and ambassador for the United Nations Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, as well as for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. Mr. Javits has also been a member of the advisory committee to the director-general for the Chemical Weapons Convention.
Mr. Javits has been featured in various Who's Who publications due to his exceptional work as both a lawyer and an ambassador. These include Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in American Politics, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World. Mr. Javits has also received the Order of Isabella the Catholic and Queen SofĂa Spanish Institute's Gold Medal.
