A proud eleventh-generation American, fifth-generation Marylander, and Captain in the US Air Force Reserve from 1953-72, Culver Sprogle Ladd has showcased his commitment to land and country time and time again. As an educator helping to shape and enrich the minds of the future, Dr. Ladd also sought to influence public policy for the greater good by running for the Republican nomination in the 1994 U.S. Senate race. Prior to his run for the Senate, he taught internationally in Bangkok, Thailand and served as a project director for Business Research Co. Ltd. in Bangkok from 1966 to 1967 and 1971 to 1974. He was a Research Analyst for the American University's Development Education & Training Research Institute, while studying in AU's SIS on Asia from 1968 to 1971. He then served as a Special Lecturer with the founding faculty at Payap University in Thailand from 1974 to 1975.
In addition to his work in the classroom, Dr. Ladd was a consultant for the U.S. Agency for International Development, a visiting scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratories, and a master teacher with the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship Foundation. As one who believes that a strong educational foundation can lead to increased economic development, he dedicated 22 years to teaching youths in Washington, D.C. public schools.
Dr. Ladd received a B.S. from the University of Maryland, two master's degrees and a Ph.D. from American University, and completed postgraduate coursework at Harvard University and Oxford University. He is a member of the Middle States Council for Social Studies, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Capital Area Political Science Association and the Mid-Atlantic Region Association for Asian Studies. An avid lover of flying, he is also affiliated with the Experimental Aviation Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Dr. Ladd received an Appreciation Award from Payap University and has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World.
