Dr. Lotzenhiser is an esteemed lecturer, former music professor and dean emeritus of Eastern Washington University School of Fine Arts. Having received a B.A. in education and B.A. in music from EWU, he also composed the music and lyrics for the school's alma mater in 1947, which was just one of his many contributions to the institution he called home for so many years.
Beginning in 1942, Dr. Lotzenhiser served the U.S. Navy and naval reserves as a seaman and was promoted to the rank of rear admiral in 1977. During his esteemed career in service to his country, he played trombone in the naval band before returning to Washington to complete his studies at Eastern. After earning a master's degree in music from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in education and music from the University of Oregon, he returned to EWU in 1960, where he served as a professor of music and created the college's first School of Fine Arts. He also contributed to the design of the first fine arts complex on the schools' campus. Throughout his career, he penned several works related to educational administration, including "A Study of Faculty Loads in Member Schools of the National Association of Schools of Music," published in 1963, and "A Study of the Selection Process of Administrators of the Fine Arts in Colleges and Universities in the U.S.," published in 1970.
Dr. Lotzenhiser is a member of the American Society of Composers, the National Association of Schools of Music, the National Music Educators Research Council, the Northwest Association Accreditation Committee, and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Committee. He has been published in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Entertainment, and Who's Who in the World.
