Philip Witorsch, MD, FACP, FCCP, Honored for Excellence in Internal Medicine

Dr. Witorsch has been an esteemed physician and medical educator for more than four decades

    WASHINGTON, DC, October 27, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Philip Witorsch, MD, FACP, FCCP, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Witorsch is an esteemed internist and medical educator with more than four decades of professional experience. He currently serves as medical director of the occupational health program and vice chairman of the Institutional Review Board at Georgetown University Medical Center, as well as a course director at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is an attending physician in the Department of Medicine, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Witsorch teaches courses in medicine, pharmacology and physiology. A diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pulmonary Disease, he remains passionate about caring for patients and teaching future physicians. He is best noted for his expertise in pharmacology, pulmonary diseases, infectious diseases, clinical research, critical care medicine, public health, health care management and epidemiology.

In 1958, Dr. Witorsch graduated magna cum laude from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. He remained at the school to earn an MD in 1962, graduating with highest class standing. Dr. Witorsch went on to complete an internship and residency in internal medicine through Yale University and Tale New Haven Hospital. He then became a clinical associate and clinical investigator for the National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. This was followed by a two-year stint as chief resident in internal medicine at the VA Hospital in Washington, DC, where he also completed a fellowship in pulmonary diseases.

From 1969 to 2005, Dr. Witorsch was a senior attending physician at Washington Hospital Center. Until 1982, he also served as chairman of the hospital's pulmonary and critical care medicine unit, director of its medical intensive care unit, and medical director of respiratory therapy. He was a member of the faculty at George Washington University from 1983 to 1995, serving as a professor of medicine and physiology, director of the section of environmental medicine and toxicology, the division of pulmonary diseases and allergy, and medical director for respiratory care.

In addition to these roles, Dr. Witorsch has been a consultant on pulmonary disease for Washington, DC VA medical Center, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Justice, the Department of Labor, Andrews Air Force Base and other organizations. He has also contributed articles to a number of medical journals. Dr. Witorsch is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Royal Society of Medicine and the American Geriatric Society. His many professional affiliations include the American Medical Association, the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the American College of Toxicology, the American Society of Internal Medicine, and the American Association of Respiratory Therapy.

Dr. Witorsch's talents and efforts were honored with several Physicians Recognition Awards from the American Medical Association between 1972 and 1999. He was chosen to be featured in the 7th and 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education, and the 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. Dr. Witorsch has also appeared in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the East.
