AACHEN, GERMANY, November 11, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Zimmermann dedicated more than 45 years to preparing students for careers in engineering and business. Throughout the years, he wrote and edited an excess of 40 books in both German and English and contributed articles to more than 270 professional journals, all highlighting developments, discoveries, and theories in the field. Proudly, he was the recipient of the Moisil Prize, a gold medal, the European Pioneers Award, and the Fuzzy Systems Pioneer Award. Before his contributions to education, however, Dr. Zimmermann was a student himself. He earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering from Technische Universität Darmstadt in 1956 and a Master of Science in industrial engineering, as well as a Ph.D., from the Technical University of Berlin in 1959 and 1962, respectively. In his later years, he earned two honorary doctor degrees from Åbo Akademi University and the Free University of Brussels. Before pursuing a Bachelor of Science, Dr. Zimmermann was briefly employed by Korfix as the supervisor of purchasing. After receiving his Masters, he worked for Siemans in Berlin. Upon earning a doctorate, he worked as the head of the production center for Standard Elektrik Lorenz, the European subsidiary of ITT (USA). His teaching career began in 1964 when he became an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a position he held until 1967, when he made the move back to Germany full-time to teach. Dr. Zimmermann held the role of professor and chairman of Rheinisch Westfälische Technische Hochschule, or RWTH Aachen University, until 1999, when he retired.
In addition to contributing industry-related articles to professional journals, Dr. Zimmermann served as the editor-in-chief of International Journal Fuzzy Sets and Systems, an editor of European Journal Operational Research, and a co-editor of 12 international journals. He founded and chaired the International Fuzzy Systems Association and is a member of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, an honorary member of the Haus der Technik, an honorary founder and the president of the German Operational Research Society, the founding president of the European Engineering and Management Association, and the founder and president of the European Operational Research Association. In 1969 he founded Inform, a company that used or improved processes and which now has more than 600 employees.
In light of his achievements, Dr. Zimmermann has been included in the 8th and the 10th through 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and the 20th through 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World.
