Dr. Sharkey maintains affiliations with the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Chemical Society, and the International Society of Photosynthesis Research.
Dr. Sharkey originally attended Michigan State University as a student; he graduated with honors from the University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in biology, and went on to receive a Ph.D. in botany and plant pathology from the school in 1980. From 1980 to 1982, Dr. Sharkey was a postdoctoral fellow at Australian National University. His career progressed in the role of associate research professor at the Desert Ranch Institute in Reno, Nev., where he remained for five years. Dr. Sharkey then spent almost 20 years in professorship roles at the University of Wisconsin, Madison prior to joining the faculty at Michigan State University.
In light of his accomplishments, Dr. Sharkey was chosen to be featured in the 51st through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, the 8th through 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, the 27th through 42nd editions of Who's Who in the Midwest, and the 27th through 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World.
