A health economist and educator, Dr. Ohsfeldt celebrates a career in higher education that began in 1979. Noteworthy roles he has held throughout his tenure include research economist for the American Medical Association, health economics research scientist with Eli Lilly and Co., professor for the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa, research associate for the Southwest Center for Urban Research, and assistant professor for Arizona State University. Today, Dr. Ohsfeldt is a professor at the School of Public Health at Texas A&M University at College Station, which is a role he assumed in 2005, where currently serves as chair of the PhD program in health services research. Considered an expert in health economics and outcomes research, he has met with success by continuing with professional development over the years. He is a member of the American Society of Health Economists, the International Health Economic Association, the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, and the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy.
In recognition of professional excellence, Dr. Ohsfeldt recently was named as a Regents Professor by the Texas A&M University System. The Regents Professor Award honors individuals at the rank of professor or equivalent whose performance as faculty members not only to their institution, agency or health science center component, but also to the community, the State of Texas, and/or at the international level has been exemplary. He also was the recipient of the President's Award from Lilly Research Laboratories of Eli Lilly and Co. and was named a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Faculty Fellow in Health Care Finance at Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, he was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in Finance and Industry. Dr. Ohsfeldt has authored numerous articles for peer-reviewed journals and co-authored "The Business of Health." He also co-edited "The Socioeconomic Characteristics of Medical Practice" and was a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Managed Care and Specialty Pharmacy. Today, he continues to work as a journal reviewer for several scholarly journals.
Dr. Ohsfeldt prepared for his career by achieving a Bachelor of Science from the University of Houston in 1977, and completed his Ph.D. from the same university in 1983. Looking to the future, Dr. Ohsfeldt intends to continue working as a professor, conducting research, teaching and mentoring doctoral students.
