WASHINGTON, DC, December 08, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Earl P. Williams, Jr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After more than three and a half decades of practiced industry experience, Mr. Williams retired from the U.S. General Accounting Office in 2005. He started in the field as a duplicating machine operator for the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University, where he served from 1968 to 1974. Towards the end of his time there, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland and pursued postgraduate studies with Catholic University. At that point in time, he spent a year as a substitute teacher for Fairfax County Virginia Schools and subsequently joined the U.S. Government Printing Office as a clerk. For nearly 30 years prior to retiring, he worked as an editor with the U.S. General Accounting Office. Now retired from that Office, he works as a freelance writer in Washington, D.C.; he has served in this capacity since the mid-'70s. Mr. Williams' most important historical discovery is that N.J. Continental Congressman Francis Hopkinson designed a Stars and Stripes flag for the United States, a Stars and Stripes flag for the Navy, and possibly a flag for the Army artillery. (See "Did Francis Hopkinson Design Two Flags?", NAVA News, No. 216, Oct.-Dec. 2012, pp 7-9.). Mr. Williams concludes that Hopkinson's Navy flag was the prototype for the official U.S. flag.
A member of the National Cathedral Association, Mr. Williams has contributed to numerous creative works, including "Amtrak's Washington-New York Corridor," "What You Should Know About the American Flag," and "What You Should Know About the Flags of the Confederacy," and an unpublished work for children entitled "Francis Hopkinson: Father of Our Flag and Much More!" (copyright 2014). A brilliant example of skill in his field, he has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the Certificate of Appreciation from the Military Order of World Wars and the Bronze Good Citizenship Medal from the Sons of the American Revolution. Additionally, he has been featured in Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Media and Communication, and Who's Who in America. Looking toward the future, Mr. William intends to experience continued success as a freelance writer.
