Passionate about music from an early age, Ms. Schnoebelen dedicated her career to its study. She began as one of the original faculty members of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in 1974, and continued on in a variety of positions over the years including chairman of the department of musicology, and Interim Dean from 2002 to 2003. In 2004, she was named Mullen Professor Emerita of Musicology. She is currently conducting her own independent musicology research.
Anne Schnoebelen published "Cantatas by Maurizio Cazzati c. 1620-1677", "Padre Martini's Collection of Letters in the Civico Museo Bibliografico Musicale: An Annotated Index", and co-authored "A Catalogue of Mass, Office and Holy Week Music Printed in Italy: 1516-1770," among many other articles in Acta Musicologica, The Musical Quarterly, Music and Letters, Music Library Association Notes, Journal of Musicological Research and Journal of Seventeenth-Century Music, Instrumenta 2. Other highlights include articles published in "Carlo Donato Cossoni nella Milano spagnola" in 2007 and "Barocco padana e musici francescani" in 2014. She has given many presentations at national and international conferences. She is also general editor of the series: Seventeenth-Century Italian Sacred Music (25 volumes) in which she edited 10 volumes of Masses.
Ms. Schnoebelen attended Rosary College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1958 and the University of Illinois, where she received a Master of Music and Ph.D. in musicology in 1960 and 1966, respectively. She is a Fellow of the American Association of University Women. She was also selected as a Fulbright fellow in 1964 and a grantee of the National Endowment of the Humanities in 1969 and 1983, and earned a travel grant from the American Council of Learned Societies in 1984.
In recognition of her success, Ms. Schnoebelen was featured in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who of the South and Southwest.
