Ms. Ewen is a retired lawyer who now focuses her efforts on her passion for writing. She is the author of six novels, including "The Moon in the Mango Tree", released in 2008, and "Walk Back The Cat", rereleased as "Secret of the Shroud" in 2013. Beginning in 2011, her trilogy set in New Orleans, featuring lives of two young women lawyers was released: "Dancing on Glass" (2011), "Chasing the Wind" (2012) and "An Accidental Life," (2013). Her bestselling nonfiction book, "Faith on Trial," weaves together her interests in law and religion. Much of her fiction explores universal women's issues. A Christy Award finalist for two of her books, Ms. Ewen won the Eudora Welty Memorial Award for her 2008 novel, "The Moon in the Mango Tree."
Prior to writing full time, Ms. Ewen built a substantial career in law. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University in 1977 before graduating cum laude with a JD from the University of Houston in 1979. After passing the bar in the state of Texas, she became admitted to practice before the 5th Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court's Southern District of Texas. Ms. Ewen began her legal career as a law clerk for the firm Harris, Cook, Browning & Barker in Corpus Christi, Texas. After a stint as an associate at the firm Kleberg, Dyer, Redford & Weil, she began working as an attorney in the law department of Gulf Oil Corporation in Houston, Texas. Ms. Ewen then joined the Houston-based international law firm Baker & Botts LLP in 1984. She became a partner of the firm in 1989 and remained there until her retirement from the legal field in 2004.
Ms. Ewen has been active with a number of legal and literary societies over the years. Legal Affiliations include the the American Bar Association, the Texas State Bar, and the American Petroleum Institute's committee on product liability. In Houston Ms. Ewen also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement, and of Inprint Inc. After retiring from the practice of law, she became a founder of the Northshore Literary Society in St. Tammany Parish Louisiana. Ms. Ewen has also served as member of the board of directors of the Tennessee Williams Festival in New Orleans, and the New Orleans Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society. She is a member of the National League of American Pen Women.
In addition to the literary acclaim for her writing, Ms. Ewen was named Literary Artist of the Year by St. Tammany Parish in 2009. She was chosen to be featured in the 59th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, the 11th through 19th editions of Who's Who in American Law, the 26th through 42nd editions of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and the 1st edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. She has also appeared in multiple editions of Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
