After nearly five and a half decades of industry experience, Dr. Gill retired from his career as a physicist and mathematician in 1999. Before entering the field, he earned a Bachelor of Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and both a Master of Arts and Ph.D. from Harvard University. His first role in the field was that of consultant for hypersonic aerodynamics for Raytheon Corp., where he served for a year. For the next year, he was a research physicist for Stanford Research Institute, after which he became the head of high-energy gas dynamics at the Institute for three years. The following two years, Dr. Gill served in the same role for Physics International Co. The 1970s and 1980s consisted of a variety of different roles for Artec Associates, including founder, president, and chief scientist, and Votan Corp., as founder, president, chief scientist, and chairman of the board.
After retiring, Dr. Gill became the founder, director and chief financial officer of the Stephen & Margaret Gill Family Foundation. He also maintains a connection to his field through lifetime memberships with the American Physical Society and the American Mathematical Society. Throughout his career, he has been recognized many times for his work, including being featured in 16 editions of Who's Who in the West, three editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and 11 editions of Who's Who in the World.
