Recognized for three and a half decades of invaluable contributions to her field, Dr. Gravallese parlays her extensive knowledge into her current role with the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where she has served in the roles of Chief of the Division of Rheumatology, Director of Translational Research for the Musculoskeletal Center of Excellence and Professor of Medicine since 2006. With exemplary skill in her field, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard College and an MD from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons before joining Harvard Medical School in a professional role in 1989. She advanced to the role of Associate Professor of Medicine, a role she maintained until 2006 when she moved to the University of Massachusetts as Professor. In addition, Dr. Gravallese has also served as a visiting lecturer at numerous academic institutions and as physician-in-chief pro tempore for the Hospital for Special Surgery at Cornell Medical School in 2004.
Dr. Gravallese affiliates herself with the American College of Rheumatology, and will serve as ACR President in 2019/2020. Throughout her notable career, she has won a variety of awards for her stellar work. Early in her career, she earned the Sandoz Award from Columbia University and the McDuffie Postdoctoral Fellow Award from the Arthritis Foundation. More recently, she won the Marion Ropes Physician Achievement Award from the Arthritis Foundation and was nominated in Best Doctors in America. Dr. Gravallese has also had the honor of being featured in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. Beginning in June 2017, she will also serve as Associate Editor for the New England Journal of Medicine.
