Mr. Madden has spent more than 40 years in financial services: leading global investment banking operations at three major Wall Street firms and, subsequently, in senior positions in private equity, including BlackEagle Partners LLC which he founded in 2006.
Mr. Madden began his career at Kidder, Peabody & Co. in New York City in 1973 after earning a Master of Business Administration degree with distinction from the Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania that same year. He graduated from Le Moyne College two years earlier with a Bachelor of Arts in economics, magna cum laude. He became a Vice President of Kidder in 1977 and a partner in 1980, the same year he founded the firm's Energy and Natural Resources Group. He was named Head of Worldwide Investment Banking in 1986 and joined Lehman Brothers in 1989 as Co-Head of Global Investment Banking. Mr. Madden returned to Kidder, Peabody in 1993 and helped orchestrate the firm's merger with PaineWebber in 1995 and was named Vice Chairman of the combined firms. He founded Hanover Capital LLC in 1997 and combined it with the Beacon Group, a leading private equity firm, where he became a partner. Mr. Madden left Beacon two years later to become senior partner at Questar LLC, a private equity firm with over $1 billion under management. He was responsible for Questar's NYC operations and originated many of the firm's most successful investments. After six years at Questar, Mr. Madden founded his own private equity firm in 20065, BlackEagle Partners LLC, where he is the Managing Partner today.
Mr. Madden remains active in personal and industry. He is the former Chair of the Le Moyne College Board of Trustees, a former member of the board of directors of the Catholic TV Center and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Canisius Preparatory School. On the corporate front, Mr. Madden serves as Lead Director of Stratus Properties and as a director of USLBM Holdings. Formerly, he was on the board of directors of Geologistics Corporation, PinnOak Resources, Chef Solutions, InStar Corporation and Waste Associates. Additionally, he is a member of the American Petroleum Institute, the MBA Association, the University Club of New York, The Creek Club, Longboat Key Club, and the Economic Club in New York.
In 21012, in recognition of his leadership and philanthrophy at his alma mater, Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY, the Madden School of Business was named in his honor.
