Retired in 2015, Dr. Nolan celebrates a career in education that led him to achieve local and international recognition. Honored by Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the World, he has demonstrated a true passion for his work and the utmost dedication to his students. In his career, he spent 48 years working at the State University of New York at Farmingdale. He began his tenure with the college as an assistant professor of physics, where after two years, he advanced to associate professor of physics and ultimately served as a professor for the next 44 years. Due to demonstrated excellence in his role, Dr. Nolan served as chairman of the physics department for seven years. He was also recognized with a Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence, and various other teaching recognition awards. Most recently, Dr. Nolan was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
Previous to his educational work, Dr. Nolan was a systems analysis engineer on lunar modules for Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation -- he also built his skillset working as an engineer with various corporations in New York and New Jersey between 1956 and 1963. "I was always interested in the engineering field and figuring out how the laws of nature and physics dictate what we can do as humans," Dr. Nolan says of his professional motivation to become involved in his line of work. Before establishing his career, he earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from Manhattan College and became certified in meteorology through UCLA. Later, he achieved a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in physics from Adelphi University. To remain at the top of his field over the years, Dr. Nolan has maintained alignment with the American Association of Physics Teachers.
