His most important work in linguistics is research into modality in present-day English.
KYOTO, JAPAN, January 12, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shoji Teramura has been included in Marquis Who's Who quite a number of times since 1999. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Teramura spent nearly three decades of his career excelling as an instructor of linguistics. Intrigued by language and its structure, he demonstrated expertise in the study of syntax and semantics. Further, he was a prominent leader in the field of sociolinguistics and applied linguistics. Mr. Teramura is regarded for the publication of a number of works in these areas, including The Kenkyusha Dictionary of English Linguistics and Philology, and Shogakukan Random House English-Japanese Dictionary, Second Edition. He contributed articles to professional journals, including the Bulletin of the Faculty of Education for Wakayama University, where he served as a professor from 1973 to 2001. His most important work in linguistics is his research into modality in present-day English.
Mr. Teramura's career and background afforded him many opportunities in the academic setting. Aside from his work with Wakayama University, he spent time as a visiting scholar, most notably at Lancaster University in England in the late 1980s. To prepare for a career in linguistics, Mr. Teramura attended Osaka University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1971 and a Master of Arts in 1973. As he progressed professionally, he became actively involved with a number of professional organizations, including the English Literary Society of Japan, the English Linguistic Society of Japan, and the Japan Association of College English Teachers. In recognition of his excellence, Mr. Teramura was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in Asia and Who's Who in the World.
Mr. Teramura has been interested in practical English for a very long time. As he looks to the years ahead, he hopes to pay a short visit to English-speaking countries (if his health allows it) and do something cultural or educational while participating in consulting projects and new opportunities in linguistics.
