Ms. Suttenfield is a prolific artist whose work has been displayed in front of local, national and international audiences. Having traveled through Europe and lived in several states with her parents, she eventually moved to West Virginia, where she continues to live and present her pieces. In addition to paintings on canvas, her work includes paper and linen depictions of still life, landscapes and the architecture of Maryland, West Virginia and other places in which he has lived.
Over the years, Ms. Suttenfield's work has been featured in more than 150 public exhibitions of all sizes, showcasing her talent in using various media, such as pen, ink, pastels, watercolors, oils and acrylics. She also composed four sketchbooks, which are: Shepherdstown Sketchbook (1976); Martinsburg Sketchbook (1978); Harpers Ferry--Pen and Ink Drawings (1979); and The C and O Canal-An Illustrated History (1981). Galleries with which she is affiliated include Mary Bell Galleries in Chicago and the Callen McJunkin Gallery in Charleston, W.Va.
Ms. Suttenfield is co-founder of the Boarman Arts Center, which she ran from 1982 to 1992. She also co-founded the German St. Gallery and was president of the Friends of the Shepherdstown River Front from 2002 to 2005. Her numerous honors and recognitions include the Woman of the Year in Art Award from the West Virginia Women's Commission, Artist of the Year form the Women's Garden Council Club, and a retrospective of her work from 1965 to 2014 displayed in the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Maryland. Ms. Suttenfield was also included in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who of American Women.
