Dr. Kapoor has been an optometrist and a research scientist in the field of vision care since establishing her career in 1994. Today, she is a neuro-optometrist at New York University's Langone Medical Center's (NYU-LMC) RUSK Rehabilitation in New York City, where she has demonstrated an expertise in addressing vision deficits for those with concussion, traumatic brain injury, vestibular dysfunction, and stroke since January 2016. In addition, she disseminates knowledge and participates in clinical and translational research as a clinical associate professor at NYU School of Medicine (NYU-SOM).
Prior to 2016, Dr. Kapoor came to prominence at State University of New York's College of Optometry (SUNY-Optometry), where she was the Director of the Raymond J. Greenwald Rehabilitation Center from 1996 through early 2010 and then the Chief of Vision Rehabilitation Services from early 2010 through mid-2015. In the early 2000s, Dr. Kapoor also worked outside of SUNY-Optometry as a neuro-optometric consultant and integral member of the inter-professional neuro-rehabilitation team at JFK Medical Center's New Jersey Neuroscience Institute.
Before establishing her career, Dr. Kapoor completed the requirements and earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto, a Master of Science in vision sciences from SUNY-Optometry, a Doctor of Optometry from SUNY-Optometry, and an optometric residency in vision therapy and rehabilitation at SUNY-Optometry. Today, she is recognized as an active fellow of both the American Academy of Optometry and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. To remain at the top of her field, she is also a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, North American Brain Injury Society, and the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine.
In recognition of her professional excellence, Dr. Kapoor was the recipient of the Founder's Award from the Brain Injury Association of New York State, the Distinguished Achievement Award from the New York State Optometric Association, a distinguished visiting research professorship from the University of Florida's College of Medicine's Emergency Medicine Residency, and the President's Award from the Optometric Center of New York.
