Dr. Borowitz taught pharmacology to medical and pharmacy students for 50 years.
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN, January 25, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joseph L. Borowitz has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Borowitz graduated with distinction from Ohio State College of Pharmacy and was commissioned as an officer in the US Army Reserve Medical Service Corps in 1955. He then earned a Master's at Purdue and a Ph.D. at Northwestern Medical School and then performed postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School. He studied calcium dynamics in adrenal medulla and found calcium increases in nuclei when catecholamines are released from medulla. Calcium is known to mediate release of these amines to increase blood pressure. Later work involved the poison, cyanide, which has killed more people acutely than any other chemical. Cyanide also changes calcium dynamics to cause toxicity.
Dr. Borowitz taught pharmacology to medical and pharmacy students for 50 years. He received awards for his teaching at all places of his instruction including Wake Forest Medical School, Indiana University Medical School and Purdue College of Pharmacy. He also received an Award for Excellence as faculty advisor to a group of Christian pharmacy students at Purdue. Furthermore, Dr. Borowitz was recipient of the St. Bellarmine Award for outstanding catechetical teaching in the Diocese of Lafayette, IN, in the year 2015.
For 32 years, Dr. Borowitz taught fourth grade Sunday school. He also wrote a book on his experiences in teaching Sunday school. In addition he wrote two books on spirituality and science. First he showed the importance of spirituality in human health. His latest book gives evidence that God is an important part of a well-ordered society.
A member of the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Dr. Borowitz has contributed his knowledge to professional journals numerous times. Additionally, he has been recognized in two volumes of Who's Who in American Education, in eight volumes of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and in 16 volumes of Who's Who in the Midwest.
