SPRINGFIELD, IL, January 25, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joyce Schroeder has been recognized by Marquis Who's Who with a Lifetime Achievement Award. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A mathematician and skilled operations research analyst, Ms. Schroeder enjoyed a successful career with the Illinois Department of Transportation for 36 years before retiring in 2012. It all began while she was attending the University of Illinois to earn a Master of Arts in operations research and was offered a position with the IDOT that nicely complimented her skill set. She was highly regarded in her profession because of the decisions made, legislation passed, and programs implemented on the basis of her work or the work of the employees under her leadership. She was valued for her knowledge, experience, and ethics as a data analyst, team leader for the Fatality Analysis Reporting System, manager of safety project evaluation, manager of crash studies and investigation and, finally, manager of its crash information section. She advanced in these various positions because of her mathematical and research abilities and because of her accomplishments in designing, developing, and conducting crash analyses and evaluative research that had the potential to directly influence transportation safety in Illinois. She also advanced because of her understanding of data and data analysis, problem identification, project and program evaluation (traffic safety and engineering-related), and the fact that she was especially talented in being able to provide/publish information understandable for the intended audience (department engineers and other professionals, other governmental entities, legislators, media, researchers, consultants, universities, and the general public). Some of this work was done solely by Ms. Schroeder; other work was accomplished through her leadership of various employees (working for her or others) working as a team. She served on various task forces and committees because of her profession, and was selected to be a Systems Engineering Delegate to the People's Republic of China because of her known works/publications.
Over the years, Ms. Schroeder volunteered many hours to the efforts of the International Association of Lions Clubs and various North American, state, and local Lions organizations. She was among the first five female District Governors in the world, the first female President of the Lions of Illinois Foundation, and received the U.S. President's Volunteer Service Award for her work for and through the Lions. She was also the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award and the Lifetime Service Award from the Lions of Illinois Foundation. The foundation also named her an Ambassador of Goodwill and Fellow Laureate. The International Association of Lions Clubs named her a Melvin Jones Fellow in 1993 and she received the 100% District Governor's Award from the International Association of Lions Clubs in 1993. In 2015, she received the Manager of the Year Award from the University of Illinois Sangamon Auditorium. Ms. Schroeder was also inducted into the President's Council of the University of Illinois in 2004, the William W. Root Society at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 2014, and was a charter inductee into the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation in 2007. In 2012, the U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration honored Ms. Schroeder with the Safety Champion Award.
Ms. Schroeder also served as an officer of many of these organizations. She continues her volunteer efforts as a life member of the International Association of Lions Clubs and as an active member of the University of Illinois Sangamon Auditorium Volunteer Association. She maintains affiliation with the Illinois Association of Highway Engineers and is a former member of the Illinois Traffic Safety Leaders. She served on the Illinois DUI Advisory Council, Illinois DWI Task Force, Governor's Task Force on Occupant Protection, Illinois Traffic Safety Information Systems Council, Illinois Traffic Records Coordinating Committee, and Illinois Center for Transportation Safety Engineering Technical Advisory Group, among others.
Ms. Schroeder was honored with inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
