XENIA, OH, January 27, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mary A. Zahner has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Backed by more than five and a half decades of practiced industry experience, Dr. Zahner is uniquely qualified to oversee a wide range of tasks on behalf of the University of Dayton, where she has served as professor emerita since 2008. Before taking on her first role in the field as an art instructor for Springfield Township Schools, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ohio University. In the late '60s, she earned a Master of Arts from her alma mater and worked for Dover High School in the roles of art instructor and chair of the art department. Subsequently, she switched her focus to higher education. For the rest of her career, she worked for the University of Dayton, where she took the roles of art instructor, assistant and associate professor, and, most recently, professor. During her time with the university, she earned a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University and worked for them for two years as a teaching assistant.
A fellow with the Ohio Art Education Association and member of the National Art Education Association, Dr. Zahner enjoyed using her free time to give back to her community and profession. She was a member of the higher education steering committee for the Ohio Department of Education, and an executive board member for the Western Regional Professional Development Center from 1996 until 2004. She also contributed her knowledge to creative works like "Barkan," which was released in 2003. Further, Dr. Zahner had her art exhibited at group shows at Westbeth Gallery, Pleiades Gallery for Contemporary Art, and the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
Dr. Zahner's hard work, talent and dedication have not gone unnoticed. In 1969, she won the Best of Show Award through the Canton Art Institute, and 20 years later, she earned the Institute Faculty Award from the Ohio Partnership for Visual Arts. She has also been included in three volumes of Who's Who in American Education, six volumes of Who's Who of American Women, and 17 volumes of Who's Who in America. Looking ahead, Dr. Zahner intends to experience the continued growth and success of her career.
