A renowned geologist, Dr. Clark has more than 50 years of experience in various areas of geological research, management and education. She began a scientific career upon graduating from the University of Idaho, where she received a Bachelor of Science in 1963, Master of Science in 1964 and Ph.D. in 1968. During this time, Dr. Clark served as a teaching assistant with the College of Mines through the University of Idaho, in addition to holding a position as a geologist and field assistant with various organizations in Spokane, Washington and Moscow, Idaho. Since 2001, Dr. Clark has served as a scientist emeritus with the U. S. Geological Survey. Based in Reston, the U. S. Geological Survey works in cooperation with more than 2,000 organizations across the country to provide reliable, impartial scientific information to resource managers, planners and other customers. From 1967-2001, Dr. Clark served the U.S. Geological Survey as a research geologist with the Alaska Mineral Resources Branch and later with the Eastern Mineral Resources Team, and in a management role for the Office of Mineral Resources and the Equal Employment Opportunity Office.

In addition, she is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America, as well as the former vice president of the Potomac chapter of the Association of Women Geologists. Her additional involvements include the Society of Economic Geologists, International Association on the Genesis Ore Deposits, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and Toastmasters International.
In recognition of her contributions to the field of geology, Dr. Clark has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. Additionally, she was selected for inclusion in the 17th, 25th and 28th editions of Who's Who of American Women, as well as the 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering. Most recently, Dr. Clark was the recipient of the Gold World Medal through the New York Festivals Film and Video Competition in 2003, the Silver Screen Award through the International Film and Video Festival in 2002, the Shoemaker Award for Communication Excellence through the U.S. Geological Survey in 2002, and the Gold Screen Award through the National Association of Government Communicators in 2002.
