Dr. Lonsdale spent more than three decades in private practice as an ear, nose and throat doctor in Vallejo, Calif. In addition to being an accomplished private practice physician, he is a past chief of staff and board director of Broadway Hospital in California. Dr. Lonsdale is a past board director of Village General Hospital as well. He left his medical practice after performing and assisting in more than 3,000 successful surgeries.
A fourth generation physician, Dr. Lonsdale took notes from his grandfather who was a medical adviser for Kaiser Wilhelm II during World War I, and his father, who won four Iron Crosses as a medical officer during World War II. Dr. Lonsdale made hospital rounds with his father when he got out of high school, an experience that cemented his decision to pursue his own career in the field of health care. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Princeton University in 1955, he earned an MD from the University of Arkansas in 1960. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Laryngology.
Further notable roles that Dr. Lonsdale held over the course of his career include chairman of the California Medical Society, chairman of the California Medical Society's Financial Oversight committee, vice president of the Bay Area Comprehensive Health Planning Council for seven years, president of the Comprehensive Health Planning Council, and vice president of Bay Area Comprehensive Health Pharmacy. He is also a past director of the World Martial Arts Association, having served as medical director for more than 30 martial arts tournaments. Dr. Lonsdale received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Unified Martial Arts in 2001. Earlier in his career, he was named Man of the Year in 1968 by the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce.
Aside from his medical career, Dr. Lonsdale is a military veteran who served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1966. His hobbies include history, music, sports and reading. Dr. Lonsdale is also appreciated for having planted 17,500 eucalyptus trees on his farm; he is happy to have seen them grown 60 feet or more. Ultimately, he is proud to have spent a lifetime joyfully working with people and trees. His many achievements have been featured in the 64th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America and the 8th edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
