RIO VISTA, CA, February 10, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- M. Elaine Schaefer has been included in Marquis Who's Who. After more than four and a half decades of practiced industry experience, Ms. Schaefer retired from academia in 2014. She started playing clarinet when she was in fourth grade and knew soon after that she wanted to be a music teacher. Before making her dreams a reality in the late 1960s, she attended Diablo Valley College and Chico State College, and also earned a Bachelor of Arts from California State University Hayward. Upon graduating, Ms. Schaefer took on the role of instrumental music teacher for Kenilworth Junior High School, where she stayed for five years. At that point, she started a six-year stint as a music teacher with Incline Village High School in the state of Nevada. She was employed at both of these institutions as Elaine Gillespie. From 1978 until 1986, she stayed with Humboldt High School in the roles of instrumental and choral teacher in Saskatchewan, Canada. In order to further her knowledge of the field, she earned a Master of Music from the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1988. That year, she also started as a music teacher with Balgonie High School, where she stayed until 1996. From 1996 until her retirement in 2014, she worked as a music instructor and conductor at College of the Siskiyous in California.
A shining example of skill in her field, Ms. Schaefer affiliates herself with the California Music Educators Association, the American Choral Directors, the International Federation of Choral Music, and the Association of Canadian Choral Directors. Even though she is no longer in the field, she still participates with various music groups, including playing clarinet in the Solano Winds Concert Band in Fairfield, Calif. In addition, she sings in the choir and plays the lead alto in the jazz band at Trilogy Rio Vista, which is the over-55 community in which she lives.
Throughout her lengthy and notable career, Ms. Schaefer has earned many awards for her work, including Teacher of the Year with the College of the Siskiyous in 2006 and Faculty Member of the Year that same year. Additionally, she has been honored with inclusion in Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who of American Women. Looking ahead, Ms. Schaefer intends to continue enjoying her retirement and singing in her community.
