MUNSTER, GERMANY, February 13, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Klaus Funke, Ph.D., has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Widely regarded for his skill, experience and innovative science as a professor in physical chemistry, Dr. Funke began a scientific career upon graduating from the University of Göttingen with a diploma in physics in 1968. He went on to receive a Ph.D. in 1970 and the venia legendi for physical chemistry in 1976, before joining the University of Hannover in 1979, chairing the electrochemistry section there as an associate professor. Within two years of accepting this position, Dr. Funke was promoted to the role of dean of the department of chemistry. He remained at Hannover University until 1985, when he accepted a position as a professor of physical chemistry with the University of Münster. Between 1988 and 1996, Dr. Funke served as the managing director of the Institute of Physical Chemistry with the university.
Deeply committed to ongoing research in the field of physical chemistry, Dr. Funke maintains involvement with the Bunsen Society of Physical Chemistry, where he served as president between 2003 and 2004. He is also the former chairman of the Association of German University Professors in Chemistry (ADUC) and the former president of the International Society of Solid State Ionics (ISSI). He was one of the founding editors of the Solid State Ionics Journal and has served as an editor for it for nearly 40 years. At the turn of the millennium, his own scientific work in the field of Solid State Ionics led him to establish a Collaborative Research Center, SFB 458, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), which he chaired during its entire lifespan, until 2010. SFB 458 was entitled 'Ionic motion in materials with disordered structures - from elementary steps to macroscopic transport'. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Funke has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World. He was the recipient of the Walter-Schottky Prize from the German Physical Society in 1980. In addition, Dr. Funke was recognized as a Wilhelm-Jost lecturer with the Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry in 1996.
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Funke has been contributing articles to professional journals for nearly 50 years. Some of his more recent invited reviews and book articles include "Emission-free energy production" (K.F., 2010), "First and second universalities: expeditions towards and beyond" (K.F., R.D. Banhatti et al., 2010), "Broadband conductivity spectroscopy for studying the dynamics of mobile ions in materials with disordered structures" (K.F., 2012), "Solid State Ionics: from Michael Faraday to green energy -The European dimension" (K.F., 2013), "Toward understanding the second universality - A journey inspired by Arthur Stanley Nowick" (K.F., R.D. Banhatti et al., 2014), "Amorphous materials: frequency-dependent ionic conductivity" (K.F. and C. Cramer, 2015), "Marking the centennial of the discovery of alpha silver iodide" (K.F., 2016).
