Dedicated and hardworking, Mr. Verrill parlays more than five decades of experience into his current individual practice. His career began as an associate at Weaver & Glassie in 1962, but he transferred to Barco, Cook, Patton & Blow in 1964 and became partner shortly thereafter. Mr. Verrill then practiced with Patton, Boggs & Blow until 1984 when he moved to Wiley, Rein LLP where he founded the international trade practice which he led until 2016 when he became emeritus chair of the practice. Now engaged in independent practice, Mr. Verrill regularly handles cases dealing with international investment arbitration, international transactions, and environmental protection policy, legislative advocacy and litigation, primarily in Maine, areas that interests him deeply.
In addition to his individual practice, Mr. Verrill is a principal of COSSAIT in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, a senior lecturing fellow and Life Member of the Board of Visitors at Duke University Law School, President of the International Law Institute in Washington, DC, President of the Islesboro (Maine) Land Trust, Pro Bono Counsel to the Natural Resources Council of Maine and the Atlantic Salmon Federation (Maine Chapter), Trustee and Secretary of the Island Institute (Maine), a Board member of Maine Rivers, Member of the International Dispute Resolution Group in London, and a panel member of CPR Washington. He prepared for his professional career by earning a Bachelor of Arts from Tufts University in 1959 and an LLB (Order of the Coif) from Duke University Law School in 1962. He also maintains affiliation with the American Society of International Law, the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association, and the D.C. Bar Association.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Verrill was included in every edition of Who's Who in America published between 1986 and 2017, and every edition of Who's Who in American Law published between 1985 and 2015. He was also featured in numerous volumes of Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in Finance and Business. Further, Mr. Verrill was the recipient of the 2007 Charles B. Rhyne Distinguished Alumni Award from Duke University Law School.
