WHITTIER, CA, February 24, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Richard Gilbert has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Involved in the scientific field since the late 1970s, Dr. Gilbert has gained a range of knowledge in his field. One of his first positions was researcher with the Marine Science Institute in Santa Barbara, where he worked from 1979 until 1982. During that time, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from UC Santa Barbara. From 1983 until 1985, he worked as a researcher and coordinator for the Catalina Island Marine Institute and then assumed a role as a science teacher for the LA Unified School District that same year. Then, in the late '80s, he became a science and calculus teacher for the American International School in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Returned from working abroad, Dr. Gilbert acted as a psychotherapy researcher at UC Santa Barbara in 1990, which was the same year he earned a Master of Arts from the same university. In 1990, he began the Ph.D. program at the university and three years later, transferred to the University of Southern California where he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in 1997. He has held a variety of positions, including instructor and researcher for the University of Southern California, head of the department of science for Valley High, adjunct professor of science, research and education for the University of Phoenix, chief academic officer for the American University of Health Sciences and president of Global Development Initiatives, Inc., as well as numerous others. Throughout his career, he has also served as a researcher, educational development consultant and director of scientific research. Currently, he is consulting for the World Bank and other National and International Agencies as a key resource person in increasing research and development capacity in the U.S. and developing countries and has worked on projects in over 40 countries.
In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Gilbert affiliates with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the California Science Teachers Association, the National Science Teachers Association, the American Educational Research Association, the Comparative and International Education Society, and the Order of International Ambassadors. Due to his excellence in the field, he has received numerous awards and commendations for his work. Dr. Gilbert was named Outstanding Teacher of Advanced Biological Sciences by the National Science Foundation in 1986, received the Faculty Excellence Award from the University of Phoenix, a Distinguished Service to Science Award by Cambridge, U.K., a California Science Fellow, and became a Robotics Education Grantee with NASA and an Eisenhower Fellow in Research through the National Science Foundation. He has also been named a Son of the United States of America by the Historical Preservations of America, and included in Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in the World.
During his spare time, Dr. Gilbert works with the International Red Cross Geneva Conventions and American Red Cross Disaster Assistance and International Services. He is also a researcher with General Research Corp. in advanced technologies-special projects and with Akela Corp. in special projects.
