SANTA BARBARA, CA, February 28, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ --Winston Zai-Yang Li has been included in Marquis Who's Who. After accruing many years of practiced industry experience, Mr. Li has since retired from the field of language education. He is now utilizing his extensive background to contribute to aid in building relationships between the U.S. and Chinese educational institutions. Throughout his career, he has worked in a variety of industries, starting as an assistant professor of Asian film studies through the Brooks Institute of Photography. Mr. Li subsequently became the institute's general coordinator for Far Eastern affairs and their general manager of Tony Rose Camera and Video, President's Council and International Development Director. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a Chinese instructor for Cate School and as an educational advisor for the National Young Leaders Conference, also to the North American Journal of Chinese Learning, where he has served since 2003. For the former, coming from a family of influential educators, he serves as the school's liaison to many organizations and agencies in China, and leads the "Cate-in-China" travel-study programs. Mr. Li is not only a respected Chinese instructor, but also brings a wealth of life experiences to Cate.
Mr. Li also has experience in the air force, and during the Chinese cultural revolution, he was a farmer, factory leader, and worker in refrigeration and mechanics. When the Cultural Revolution ended, Mr. Li pursued his dream --to get involved in China's movie industry to making movies as well, and enjoyed an illustrious film career. He eventually performed in a dozen films. In one, he was the male lead ("Returning Country Home" 1983) and another of his films ("405 Murder Case" 1979) was the first attract over one hundred million viewers in China, and garnered Mr. Li a nomination of the Thousand Flower Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Mr. Li attributes his success to his extensive professional resume and his educational background, which includes graduation from the Shanghai Film Academy in Performing Arts and a Bachelor of Arts from Brooks Institute of Photography, as well as postgraduate studies through Brooks Institute of Photography in the Science of Photography, taking courses in teaching foreign languages at Dartmouth College, studying Chinese Language Pedagogy at the University of California, Santa Barbara, conducting Oral Proficiency Interview Assessments for Chinese at Bemidji State University, and taking Summer Study for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language at Beijing Language & Culture University. He is a member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the Chinese Language Teachers Association, the Association of Motion Picture and Video Engineers, Chinese Film Artist Association, and the Chinese Language Association of Secondary Elementary. In addition, he was co-founder of the Santa Barbara Chinese Festival (now an annual event).
Throughout his career, he has earned many accolades, including the Flying Apsaras Award from the Ministry of Culture in the People's Republic of China. He also received the first Fulbright-Hays scholarship for summer study in China by a high-school teacher, and one of the two top honors in the National Chinese Teachers' assessment test given by the National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, based in Beijing. Mr. Li also received the Educators in Digital Starlight award (2003), Honorary Montana Citizen award (2009), and Honorary Shanghai Film Performing Artist award (July 25, 2016).
