A retired corporate vice president, Mr. Ellig served Pfizer, Inc. in various leadership roles for more than 35 years. Most recently, he was the world-wide head of human resources, although he has also enjoyed positions in personnel, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and research. Mr. Ellig is a recognized speaker in his field of expertise, and was a member of standing committees with Pfizer, Inc. from 1985 to 1996. He has contributed more than 100 articles to professional journals and delivered more than 400 presentations on radio and television. Since 1978, Mr. Ellig has authored nine books as well as served on the advisory board of numerous publications.
He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Business Administration and MBA, Mr. Ellig began working as a manager of compensation and personnel research for Pfizer, Inc., a pharmaceutical company located in New York City. He was immediately recognized for his business acumen and continued to rise through the ranks before taking on various executive roles within the company. Mr. Ellig is a fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Ellig has continued to be recognized for his ongoing contributions to the business world. He received lifetime achievement awards from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and WorldatWork. In 1995, he was named Person of the Year by the University of Wisconsin Alumni Club in New York, as well as HR Executive of the Year by Human Resource Executive Magazine. Most recently, Mr. Ellig received the Distinguished Business Alumnus Award from the University of Wisconsin School of Business. He has been featured in a wide variety of honors publications, including Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
In recognition of the gratitude he feels toward the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Mr. Ellig established the Bruce R. Ellig Distinguished Chair in Pay and Organizational Effectiveness in the School of Business. While the chair is designed to recruit faculty and students, Mr. Ellig hopes it will provide students with the tools to succeed far beyond their academic years. He states, "The strength of an education at UW-Madison is not so much what you learn, but that you learn how to learn. From my undergraduate years through the master's program in business, what was most valuable was discovering how to ask the right questions. If you can do that, you can always get the answers you need to move forward." Mr. Ellig is also credited with creating the Bruce R.
