An alumnus of numerous prestigious institutions, including Concordia University (St. Paul, MN), the U of Illinois (Chicago), and Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Dr. Lopez holds an Associate of Arts, a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, a Master of Divinity, a Master of Sacred Theology, and a PhD. He also holds a certificate in bioethics and a certificate in spiritual direction from Loyola Marymount University (Los Angeles). Rev. Lopez's professional affiliations include the Association of Professional Chaplains and the Academy of Parish Clergy. He is an ordained clergy member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
In addition to authoring "Spiritual Care Reflections from a Hospice Chaplain" (October 2015, Energion Publications), he has numerous articles in professional journals including Sharing the Practice, Seminary Ridge Review, Best Funeral Meditations, Herberg Collection: A Guide to the Papers and Annotated Texts (1978), Pastoral Care and Counseling Abstracts and the Pittsburgh Book of Daily Prayer. Rev. Lopez has achieved many awards for his work in the field. He won the Men of Achievement Award (Cambridge, England), and is a member of the Henri Nouwen Society and the Thomas Merton Society. He has also been featured in five editions of Who's Who in America and the 4th edition of Who's Who in Religion.
