Lois Whealey Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Humanities Education

Ms. Whealey's career has taken her across the country; however, there is one thing that remains the same: her desire to help students learn



Throughout the course of her six-decade career, Ms. Whealey has played an instrumental role in shaping the education of students.

    ATHENS, OH, March 16, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lois Whealey has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Throughout the course of her six-decade career, Ms. Whealey has played an instrumental role in shaping the education of students. During her tenure she has been a fifth-grade teacher at Swayne School in Owyhee, Nev., a seventh-grade teacher at Fort Knox Dependent School in Kentucky, a sixth-grade teacher at Amerman School in Northville, Mich., and an eighth-grade teacher at the Slauson Junior High School in Ann Arbor, Mich. Her career has taken her across the country; however, there is one thing that remains the same: her desire to help students learn. "To guide the learning process and nurture students' passions is universally gratifying, and I'm honored to be part of their learning," she says of the magic of education. Ms. Whealey taught primarily in the areas of history, social studies and humanities. Also, following her teaching tenure, she acted as administrative assistant for several Ohio University Humanities Conferences.

In recognition of professional excellence, Ms. Whealey was named a Woman of Achievement by the Black Diamond Girl Scout Council and Outstanding Feminist by the Athens Herstory Celebration. She was recipient of an Unsung Unitarian Universalist Award by the Ohio-Meadville District Unitarian Universalist Association, a "How To" Award from the Educational Press Association of America, a Donna Chen Women's Equity Award from Ohio University, and a Community Service Award from the Athens County Community Services Council. Additionally, Ms. Whealey was the recipient of an award for individual contribution over a lifetime by the Ohio Alliance for Environmental Education. Further, she was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.

Ms. Whealey's professional achievements are supported by her education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Stanford University in 1951 and a Master of Arts in education from the University of Michigan in 1955. Later, she attended Ohio University, where she achieved a Master of Arts in political science in 1975 and a Master of Social Sciences in 2007. Although retired, Ms. Whealey has contributed articles to professional journals and affiliates with professional organizations, including the League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women, and Phi Kappa Phi. She bills herself as a "Citizen Activist."
