Dr. Armacost is a retired academic administrator who holds the title of president emeritus at two different schools: Forman Christian College and Eckerd College. He served as president of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla., from 1977 until 2000, and president and principal of Forman Christian College in Pakistan from 2002 until his retirement in 2012. In between these two posts, Dr. Armacost was a senior adviser for the Council of Independent Colleges from 2001 to 2003. Prior to his career with Eckerd College, he spent 10 years at Ottawa University in Kansas, where he served as president and professor of psychology. He was also a program director for the Association of American Colleges in Washington, D.C., before serving as the dean of students and chairman of the department of psychology at Augsburg College in Minnesota early in his career.
In order to prepare for his endeavors in academia, Dr. Armacost began building a strong educational foundation by earning a Bachelor of Arts from Denison University in 1957. In 1963, he obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Armacost later received an honorary LL.D. from Ottawa University in 2011. He also remained current in his field through memberships and leadership positions with numerous professional organizations, including the American Council on Education, the American Association for Higher Education, and the Society for Values in Higher Education. Dr. Armacost is a past president of the Kansas Independent College Association and the Florida Association of Colleges and Universities, and a past chairman of the Florida Chapter of the Young President Organization. He has served on the board of directors of multiple organizations, including the Association of American Colleges, the Council of Independent Colleges, and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. Dr. Armacost has been involved with many civic organizations as well.
The author of various materials in his field, Dr. Armacost has earned a number of formal honors over the years. These include receiving a Distinguished Alumnus Citation from Denison University and a Distinguished Service Award from the National Association Student Personnel Administrators. In 1999, he was named to the Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame. His accomplishments have been featured in the 44th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, the 3rd through 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education, the 27th through 38th editions of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and several editions of Who's Who in the World.
