Ms. Clagett is a former county and state legislator who focused on supporting the environment, agricultural preservation, quality education, safety and health care in Anne Arundel County. A member of the Democratic Party, she spent 16 years representing Maryland's District 30 in Anne Arundel County. She served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1994 until the end of 2010. Prior to that Ms. Clagett was a councilwoman with the Anne Arundel County Council for 20 years; she was chair of the Council for 8 years.
Ms. Clagett studied at the University of Geneva before earning a Bachelor of Arts in history from Smith College in 1965. She began her career as an assistant reporter for a radio station in Philadelphia, Pa. After relocating to Maryland, she became an active member of the community through involvement with numerous associations. Ms. Clagett has served as vice chair of the Baltimore Regional Planning Council, a trustee of Hammond-Harwood House, a member of the Anne Arundel County Agricultural Advisory Committee and a member of the board of directors of Historic Annapolis Inc., among other positions. Her professional affiliations included the American Business Women's Association and the Maryland Association of Counties.
Ms. Clagett is currently a Commissioner on the Critical Areas and Coastal Bays Commission of Maryland, a Trustee on the board of The Maryland Historical Society and a board member of the Maryland League of Conservation Voters.
In recognition of her achievements, Ms. Clagett was named one of Maryland's Top 100 Women in the Daily Record in 2006. She also received the Dr. Torrey Brown Award from the Chesapeake Bay Trust in 2011. Ms. Clagett has been featured in the 59th through 64th editions of Who's Who in America, the 26th through 38th editions of Who's Who in the East, the 24th edition of Who's Who in the World, and the first edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. She has appeared in multiple editions of Who's Who in American Politics and Who's Who of American Women as well.
