Dr. Reynolds is a mechanical engineer and engineering educator with over 44 years of professional experience. He is regarded for his contributions to the fields of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) acoustics and vibration and human exposure to mechanical vibration and shock. He began his professional career as an assistant professor of architectural engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and an associate professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He then left the university environment to work in the fields of HVAC, building and environmental acoustics and vibration at the acoustical consulting firms of Pelton-Blum and Joiner-Pelton-Rose in Dallas, Texas. After this, Dr. Reynolds joined the faculty at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) as a professor of mechanical engineering. Today, he continues in this role, which he has held for over 33 years, and serves as the director of the Center for Mechanical and Environmental System Technology in the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering. In recognition of his professional achievements, Dr. Reynolds was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America each year since 2010.

Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Reynolds participated in professional activities that allowed him to interact and share his expertise with others. This participation provided him with the means to develop new skills and make contributions in his fields of work that have brought him to prominence in these fields. He is nationally regarded for his contributions to the American Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) in the field of HVAC acoustics and vibration. He is nationally and internationally regarded for his contributions to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) where he is the chair of Working Group S2.39. In this capacity, he also serves as the chair of the Technical Advisory Group and the head of U.S. delegation to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 108/Subcommittee 4. The ANSI working group and ISO subcommittee are responsible for developing and maintaining U.S. ANSI and international ISO standards associated with human exposure to mechanical vibration and shock.

Dr. Reynolds is regarded as an author. He has written multiple articles published in professional journals and presented numerous technical papers at professional society meetings that addressed his research results in his fields of work. He has written and published two engineering textbooks: Engineering Principles of Acoustics: Noise and Vibration Control and Engineering Principles of Mechanical Vibration, 4th Edition. He has written four technical manuals associated with HVAC acoustics and vibration: Algorithms for HVAC Acoustics with J. M. Bledsoe (for ASHRAE), Procedural Standards for Sound and Vibration (for National Environmental Balancing Bureau), Design and Analysis of Sound and Vibration (for National Environmental Balancing Bureau), and HVAC Sound and Vibration Manual (for Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association). In addition, he holds national and international patents for devices designed to reduce human exposure to mechanical vibration and shock.

To prepare for a career in engineering, Dr. Reynolds earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University in 1967, a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1969, and a Ph.D. degree from Purdue University in 1972. As Dr. Reynolds looks to the future, he has no intentions of slowing down in making contributions to his fields of work. Indeed, he aims to continue working in both his directorship and educational roles with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the years to come.
