ZUMIKON, SWITZERLAND, March 31, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lothar Reh, Ph.D., has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Reh began a scientific career upon graduating from University Karlsruhe in 1955. He pursued a Ph.D. in engineering while serving as research engineer with Metallgesellschaft AG, a recognized metal group at Frankfurt. In 1961 following his Ph.D. graduation at University Karlsruhe, Dr. Reh joined the daughter company LURGI Chemie und Huettentechnik, where he fulfilled various tasks. These included head of furnace design group, head of development group and head of the development department. In 1982 he started lectures about high temperature gas/solid reaction engineering at University Karlsruhe. At the end of 1985 Dr. Reh left Lurgi Group. Following a brief period of free consultancy he became elected 1986 professor of process engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) at Zurich. There he served as head of department, "mechanical and process engineering," from 1990 to 1994. In 1991 he finished lecturing at University Karlsruhe as Professor hon. Following his active duties at ETH, at the end of 1998 Professor Reh transferred his pilot units under a joint research agreement to the Institute of Process Engineering at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing, where he acts until now as scientific consultant.
An accomplished author, Prof. Reh has contributed more than 159 articles to scientific journals and conferences. Since 1956, he has been credited as the inventor or co-inventor of 91 patents or patent applications in chemical, metallurgical and energy processing. Prof. Reh was actively involved in the development of "Circulating Fluid Bed Calcining Process of Alumina" and "Circulating Fluid Bed Power Generation Processes," which were completed between the 1960s and 1980s. Since 1985, Prof. Reh still serves as consultant for reaction process engineering to different bodies and as peer reviewer for technological journals, where circulating fluidbed reactions, energy efficiency and recycling belong to his preferred topics.
To remain abreast of recent developments, Prof. Reh maintains involvement with "Swiss Study Group for Energy Perspectives," as well as the DECHEMA, AIME/TMS, GDMB and VDI-GET Verein Deutscher Ingenieure. He has held membership positions in several German, Swiss, Chinese and International advisory boards of institutions in the fields of process, energy, recycling, combustion and environmental engineering research and research funding. Previously, Prof. Reh served as president of DVV Deutsche Vereinigung fuer Verbrennungsforschung from 1978 to 1981, as Member of Joint Committee of International Flame Research Foundation (IFRF), Jjmuiden, from 1978 to 1985, and as a chairman of the VDI-GVC Reaction Engineering Committee from 1983 to 1994. As a member of the scientific advisory board of international conferences he helped shape the conferences "COALTECH EUROPE", Den Hagg/NL and London UK, 1980 to 1987, "International Conferences on Circulating FluidizedBeds", 1984 to 2014, the three "International Conferences on Recycling, Re-Integration, Recovery" (3-R) 1994 to 1999, Geneva, as well as the world conferences R'07 "Resource Efficiency in Materials and Energy by Recovery", Davos, 2007 and R'09 "Resource Management and Technology for Material and Energy Efficiency", Davos/CH and Nagoya/JP, 2009.
Prof. Reh has received numerous international awards in recognition of his commitment to the scientific community as developer, educator and consultant. Most recently, Prof. Reh was honored by the State Government of China, Beijing with the "2008 Award for International Cooperation in Scie. and Tecnol." He has been featured in a wide range of honors publications throughout the course of his career, including Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World. In addition, Prof. Reh was selected for inclusion in the 31st edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, which was published in 1999.
