Driven by his passion for the field, Dr. Curreri has dedicated five and a half decades to health facility administration and education. His professional journey began at Swarthmore College and the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and an MD, respectively. Those degrees propelled him to join his graduate alma mater's hospital as an intern and resident, and led him to want to share his recently-accrued knowledge with others. Subsequently, Dr. Curreri obtained educational roles in surgery for the University of Texas, the University of Washington, Cornell University, and the University of South Alabama. He is currently utilizing his expertise as the chairman of Strategem of Alabama, Inc., where he has served since 1988.
To ensure that he remained connected to his peers and professional community, Dr. Curreri became affiliated with prestigious organizations such as the American Association for Surgery of Trauma, where he served as the president from 1989 until 1990, the American College of Surgeons, the Society of University Surgeons, where he served as the president from 1981 until 1982, and the American Burn Association, where he served as the president from 1983 until 1984. He also contributed to numerous articles in professional journals, and was recognized many times for his outstanding work. In 1972, Dr. Curreri had the Research Career Development Award bestowed upon him by the National Institutes of Health. Many years later, in the late 1980s, he won the Curtis P. Artz Award through the American Trauma Society. Additionally, Dr. Curreri has been featured in seven editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and two editions each of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
