His commitment to helping people plan their financial futures came full circle through his own support of Minnesota State University, Mankato (his Alma Mater). Cy recalls the struggles of juggling fulltime work and school. In 2006, Cy created a student scholarship in the Certified Financial Planning (CFP) track of the Finance Department - College of Business. He further provided for the scholarship's longevity by setting up a planned gift through his estate. Through such a plan he will continue to provide much-needed funds for students pursuing careers like his: helping people make sound financial planning decisions for themselves, their families, their retirement, their business and their estate.
Cy is also a volunteer legislative advocate on many important issues and for many organizations: AARP issues (issues that affect it's membership made up of those age 50+) examples: Social Security, Medicare, Tax and health insurance. POW/ MIA issues, PTSD and agent orange issues; Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). the American Legion, FarmAmerica (Minnesota Agricultural Interpretive Center}, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP - child abuse and rape issues) to name a few.
Celebrating a career that began in 1966, Mr. Denn is highly regarded for his expertise in financial management. During his tenure, he worked in roles, including Financial Services Executive and Financial Planner for MetLife Financial Services, assistant manager for Farm Bureau Financial Services, manager for Prudential Financial Services and regional manager for the Catholic Aid Association.
Additionally, he was a branch manager and marketing specialist for MetLife in its various offices in Illinois, Minnesota, North and South Dakota. In recognition of professional excellence, Mr. Denn was a recipient of a Career Development Award from the General Agency Managers Association, a Leader's Conference Award qualifier (5 times) from MetLife Financial Services and a Regional Sales Manager Award from the Catholic Aid Association (twice). In 1990, Cy received the prestigious "Robert L. Rose Award" for Excellence in Agent Education by the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). In 1996 he was awarded the "Spark Plug" award(the only time awarded) by the Aberdeen, SD NAIFA. Additionally, he was selected for inclusion in Marquis' Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America since 1990.
Mr. Denn is recognized in his local and professional communities for his involvement with various organizations and projects. He has been a member of the St. Clair Public School Board and the health advisory committee for Senator Tom Daschle (1993-1996). Further, he is a philanthropist for the Minnesota State University, Mankato, a Certified Financial Planning (CFP) Scholarship, the Mayo Clinic Health System - Mankato Foundation and is a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of St. Clair, MN. With regard to the financial services industry, Mr. Denn maintains alignment with the Society of Financial Services Professionals(SFSP), FarmAmerica (Minnesota Agricultural Interpretive Center - Waseca, MN), the South Dakota Planned Giving Council (was a member of the 3-person state wide organizing committee (1994-1995) consisting of 1 Financial Advisor, 1 lawyer and 1 CPA).
Mr. Denn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in: Finance, Management and minors in Political Science and Economics, as well as an honorary MBA from Minnesota State University, Mankato, MN. Additionally, he is a Chartered Life Underwriter(CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant(ChFC), and Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow(LUTCF).
As he looks to the future, Mr. Denn intends to work in an advisory role for financial firms as opportunities arise.
