For more than 50 years, Ms. Millane devoted her career to the field of public service. Now retired, she concluded her tenure as the chair of aging services for the New York State Office of Aging Advisory Committee, a position in which she excelled for 21 years. Regarded for her hard work and industry expertise, she held other noteworthy roles, including deputy supervisor and later, supervisor, of the Amherst Town Board, for which she was also a council member in the early 1980s. While establishing herself professionally within the town, Ms. Millane continued to make an impact on her community by acting as a legislative liaison for the State University of New York Family Violence Clinical Law School, president and appointed commissioner of the EJ Meyer Hospital Junior Board, and member of the New York State Ethics Committee. Further, Ms. Millane played an instrumental role in a number of civic projects, including those with the auxiliary to the Erie County Bar Association, as past President of the Women's Committee for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York State Association of Large Towns, the Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Women United Against Drugs Campaign, the Network on Aging of Western New York, the White House Conference on Aging, and serving as chairperson of the Aging Service Advisory Committee, appointed by Governor Pataki and Neil Lane, who at the time was acting director, from 1995 to 2005.
In recognition of professional excellence, Ms. Millane was honored on numerous occasions with service awards by the town of Amherst. Most notably, the community named an award in her honor -- the Lynn Millane Community Service Award. She was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award for outstanding community service and she earned a Distinguished Service Award from the Amherst Adult Day Care and Visiting Nurses Association. Further, Ms. Millane was named Homemaker of the Year by Family Circle Magazine and Woman of the Year by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Finally, she was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Politics, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women. When queried about her professional achievements, Ms. Millane credited her true enjoyment of public and community service projects.
Prior to establishing her career, Ms. Millane prepared herself by attending the University of Buffalo, where she achieved a Bachelor of Education in 1949 and a Master of Education in health education in 1951. Her professional affiliations included membership with the League of Women Voters, the Amherst Representative Women's Club, the Amherst Symphony Orchestra Association and the Women's 20th Century Club (past president, 2009-2010). In 2015, the board of trustees at Daemen College bestowed Emeritus status on her. Looking ahead, Ms. Millane intends to continue acting as an integral part of her community through select projects.
